HMP Parc is a Category B prison and Young Offender Institute (YOI) in Bridgend, which is managed by G4S on behalf of the Ministry of Justice. The prison currently accommodates 1,670 prisoners and 676 staff. It is located to the south east of M4 junction 36 and is accessed from the North via Heol Hopcyn John.
HMP Parc opened as a prison in 1997, having previously been used as a psychiatric hospital. The prison has been expanded on more than one occasion since opening and currently operates with a maximum capacity of 1849; 46 of these spaces are commissioned for male young people aged 15 to 17 years, the remainder are for male adults and young adults. The fabric of the prison has been built to Category B standards and its population comprises largely of Category C prisoners in a resettlement window, a small proportion of trainer cohort of long term young adults and Category B adults, and a limited number of reception cohort for a PCoSO population (prisoners charged/convicted of sex offences). The prison currently accommodates 1,670 prisoners and 676 staff.
The Site comprises 5 cell houseblock buildings up to four storeys in height and other buildings and features within the prison compound including a gatehouse, storage buildings and yards, courtyards, a workshop, a gym, sports pitch and visitors centre.
There is an internal access road to the west of the Site and two surface car parks, one to the east and one to the north of the prison compound.
